Scott Cohen

President and Supervising Designer

Scott Cohen is the creative force behind The Green Scene, one of the fastest-growing outdoor landscape design and construction firms in the Los Angeles area. Scott’s passion for design began as a boyhood fascination with sculpture, drawing, architecture and gardening. At the age of 15, he started his own successful landscape maintenance business and began to learn many of the innovative landscaping methods he still uses today—more than two decades later— at The Green Scene.

Since Scott took over as President and Supervising Designer in 1995, The Green Scene’s volume of business has increased tenfold with no end in sight. That growth can be attributed to Scott’s unique approach to creating designs that reflect the personalities of the homeowners as well as the attributes of the home and yard. A four-page “Getting-To-Know-You” design questionnaire allows Scott to incorporate the hobbies and interests of the homeowners into his designs to give each a truly personalized project.

An accomplished ceramicist and sculptor, he specializes in custom-designed tiles and sculptures that add imaginative personal touches to the yard—once even body-casting a client to create a life-like mermaid sculpture for her pool. His artistic abilities and years of creating innovative designs have given him the uncanny ability to visualize a dramatic showplace within moments of entering a yard, often beginning his first sketches as his clients discuss their wish list of amenities.

Unlike many other designers, Scott is a licensed contractor in landscape, pool and general construction, enabling him to service every phase of a project. He is constantly pushing the envelope with new construction techniques and developing his management systems to deliver unparalleled workmanship and professionalism to his clients.

A Master’s Of Design Award winner, Scott has been featured on Home and Garden Television’s Landscaper’s Challenge, Designing for the Sexes, and Get Out Way Out! Scott's designs are also regularly showcased in numerous local and national print media, such as Luxury Pools, Pool and Spa News, Architectural West, Hearth and Home, and Signature Pools and Outdoors. He is member of the Contractors Board Industry Expert Program, and continues to lobby for ethical Workers’ Compensation practices in the construction industry.

Scott Cohen is a registered Industry Expert with California State Contractors License Board and is regularly hired by the Oxnard and Azusa offices.

He is nationally recognized as an expert in pool and spa design, concrete patio design and sizing, outdoor fireplace construction, water features, ponds and waterfalls, and general landscape construction. He is published frequently in books, consumer and trade magazines, and with online publishers.
